Churchwide work days

As you can imagine with times we are currently in, the outdoor aesthetics of the church campus have taken a hit. We are organizing three workdays over the next three weekends to accomplish several projects that include indoor and outdoor tasks. In order to accomplish these tasks, we need several volunteers. Please know that all measures will be taken to maintain social distancing guidelines. If you are available, please register below.

August 15: pruning trees and bushes, clearing out fallen branches, and spreading pine straw. Tools needed: gloves, goggles, chainsaws, wheelbarrows, handsaws, brush-cutter or sling-blade, and yard rakes.

August 22: spreading mulch on the playground, spreading sand on the volleyball court, pressure washing. Tools needed: gloves, goggles, rakes, shovels, wheelbarrows, and pressure wash

August 29: clear out all closets and storage areas of items that are no longer used. Tools needed: gloves, hand-trucks, and team-lifts.

Thank you for your donations, Summer Lunch Program 2020

I want to personally thank each of you for another SUCCESSFUL summer lunch program this year!  With all the new rules, regulations and guidelines we worried we might not have enough supplies or volunteers. We were humbled by the generous response. Blessed be to our faithful God and all of you.
This year we served 75 weekly lunches to Fayette County students qualifying for assistance.
With the abundant donation of supplies and groceries we were able to pack extra chips, desserts and drinks for the children every week. The lunch bags were always overflowing!
Because of all the generous outside support we received for the summer lunch program we were able to use regularly allocated budget funds to partner with Leap for Literacy. This allowed us to also donate brand new books to every elementary and middle school student in the program. Each student received three age appropriate books!
Speaking of generous, our church raised $2,100 in Target/Walmart gift cards. Each child received a $25 gift card to use toward back to school supplies. In addition, we were able to bless high school age students with an additional $25 gift card.
Students in the program received a basket of basic school supplies to assist with their back to school or virtual learning needs.
Finally, the plentiful offerings we received allowed us to help another church struggling to find volunteers the last week of the program. In addition to delivering lunches, we also donated books, gift cards and back to school supplies.
As one of the children on the route said to me, “When I say thank you, I really mean thank you. You will never know what this delivery means to us.”

None of this would have been possible this year without our church family, weekly volunteers and, a few key volunteers. So please be sure to say a special thank you to the following:

  • Judy Bellamy and Kathryn Sweitzer who lead the whole program.
  • Pat Ormbsy who oversaw the sandwich making each week.
  • Ed O’Bar who is the logistics king and made sure our routes were drivable and homes were easy to find.
  • Kathryn SweitzerJackie KempinskaHannah Kempinska, and Tamara Kester who donated half of the school supplies and organized the back to school efforts for the summer lunch program students.

This program is always one of my favorite things we do each year, but this year was the best one yet!

Thank you,
Sarah Thompson

Phased Reopening Plan Update

Hello Evergreen Church Family,
Thank you for your patience and flexibility as we work towards reuniting for in-person worship. Even though services look a little different, we are grateful to worship in any way we can.

We know that many of you are eager to get back to our regular worship schedule, however the COVID situation requires we continue our 9:30 am indoor service, 7 pm Church on the Lawn, and virtual worship options for the foreseeable future. Please keep in mind we ask those attending the 9:30 am indoor service to RSVP.

You may be wondering what this means for Wednesday nights. Due to the current COVID situation, we are unable to provide Wednesday night dinner or programming at this time. Youth will continue to meet, but in an outdoor setting as weather permits. Youth parents, keep an eye out for further communication from Jonathan directly.

In the same vein, we are unable to provide children’s programming or care during worship services. Although we are heartbroken that we cannot be together in our THRIVE classes, we are still excited about all of the at-home discipleship opportunities taking place with the Fruit of the Spirit study. This family-based and at-home approach will continue into the fall with a new study surrounding the Armor of God. Thrive Tribe, look for all communication from Corinne via your parent newsletter and Facebook page.

Thank you for your faithfulness and flexibility as we continue to balance the safety of our community and  furthering the Kingdom. Any additional changes made to the current reopening plan, as well as ministry updates, will be communicated through email, the Evergreen Church website and social media accounts. We appreciate your patience and prayers as we navigate the future together. Should you have any questions or concerns, please contact Raymonde Neely at Raymonde@EvergreenChurchGa.org
