Back-to-school Sunday

We are dedicating Sunday, August 12 to praying over our students. We encourage your student (of any age) to bring their backpack to church so we can pray and lift up our children and youth as a congregation.

Otto’s Story

Sunday Kathy Olmsted, an Evergreen Church Covenant Partner, shared a story about a man named Otto who has been living in a tent for the past 17 years. Kathy and her small group -The Beacons – became aware of him through a sign he was holding with the words “Disabled, Hungry.” Providing frequent lunches for him followed, and the beginnings of a relationship of trust by Otto began. The Beacons began to live life on mission with Otto – helping him obtain disability benefits which eventually totaled $750 a month, establish an address via P.O. box, obtain an ID card through the DMV, and obtain food benefits totaling $16 a month. Because of the determination of the small group and pushing through several bumps in the road, Otto has moved into a small house. The Beacons and the Evergreen Church Missions Team has provided him with bedroom furniture, table and chairs, dishes, pots and pans, and bed and bath linens. Another Evergreen Ministry Partner, Comfort Quilters, has provided Otto a quilt.

Kathy’s small group and the Evergreen Church Missions Team has covered this journey in prayer and continues to follow what the Lord has told them to do, “Love your neighbor.” This faithfulness has impacted not only Otto, but now he is helping his friend Leon through the same process and obstacles.
Please pray for Otto’s transition as he readjusts to society after being solitary for so long. He also needs a housemate to make his living situation more financially stable. We are asking you to prayerfully consider purchasing a Kroger gift card in any amount to help stock Otto’s fridge and pantry. A collection basket is at the church Welcome Center desk for your convenience on Sunday morning. Also, pray that Otto is able to have his gas turned on so he can use his stove, stop taking cold showers, and have heat in the winter.
