Day 19 - I Still Need More

John 14

Jesus had just finished his last meal with his closest friends. He knew that the next few hours would bring betrayal, arrest, and ultimately death. As the weight of that moment settled in, he tried to prepare his friends for what was about to happen. Jesus said he was leaving to prepare a place for them in his Father’s house.

This confused the disciples. Thomas raised his hand, essentially asking, “Uh… What do you mean, and how do we get to wherever you’re going? Where are you even going? Right behind Thomas, Philip chimed in with something I think we can all relate to:

“Lord, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us.” — John 14:8

In other words, Philip says, “Jesus, just give me ONE more sign. I know I’ve seen you do incredible things, but I’m feeling uncertain right now. Just one more clear sign, and I’ll be good.” Can you relate to that? Maybe right now you’re at a major crossroads. You’re staring down a big decision, and you’ve whispered a similar prayer: “God, I just need a sign. Make it clear—what should I do?”

I love how Jesus responds. Look at what he says to Philip:

“Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip?” — John 14:9

I just imagine Jesus shaking his head with a little smirk, saying, “Philip, seriously? After

everything you’ve seen me do, after all the moments we’ve shared, you still doubt?”

But Jesus doesn’t stop there—he doesn’t leave Philip hanging in that place of uncertainty.

Instead, he gently points Philip back to something crucial:

“Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me—or else believe on

account of the works themselves.” — John 14:11

In other words, “Philip, think back to all the times you’ve already seen me move. Remember the miracles, remember the answered prayers, remember those undeniable moments when God was clearly at work.”

This is what Lent is really about—not just about giving something up, but about slowing down to reflect and recognize where God has shown up in your life. It’s about looking back and seeing God’s fingerprints all over your story, reminding yourself that He’s still right there with you, even when you’re waiting for that next big sign.

The truth is, we often find ourselves praying exactly what Philip asked: “God, just give me a sign. Help me figure out what’s next.” It might be a job decision, a relationship crossroads, a move you’re considering, or some other big step that’s making your heart pound a little faster.

So here’s my encouragement for you this Lent season:

Instead of waiting for one more sign, look back on the ways God has already shown up. Where have you seen him clearly at work? What are those moments—big or small—that can’t be explained without God stepping into your story? Hold on to them, celebrate them, and let those moments build your confidence.

Because here’s the deal:

The same God who moved in your past is still moving today. You don’t need another miraculous sign—your life itself is filled with evidence of an active, loving God who isn’t finished with your story.

Reflect:

● Where in your life have you seen clear evidence of God moving?

● How can remembering that moment help you trust him with the big decisions you’re

facing right now?

Remember those moments. Trust that evidence. And know that the greatest reminder of God’s presence—the empty tomb—is right around the corner.
