Today's Reading: Genesis 28:1-16
As Jacob slept, he dreamed of a stairway that reached from the earth up to the heavens. And he saw the angels of God going up and down the stairway. At the top of the stairway stood the Lord, and he said, “I am the Lord, the God of your grandfather Abraham, and the God of your father, Isaac. The ground you are lying on belongs to you. I am giving it to you and your descendants. Your descendants will be as numerous as the dust of the earth! They will spread out in all direction - to the west and the east, to the north and the south. And all the families of the earth will be blessed through you and your descendants. What’s more, I am with you, and I will protect you wherever you go. One day I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have finished giving you everything I have promised to you.” Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I wasn’t even aware of it!”

Thoughts to discuss
  • What does it mean that Jesus is a ladder for you?
  • How is it good news that Jesus wants to a ladder for you, brining you up to Him when you've fallen down?
  • As you hang today’s ornament on your Jesse Tree, thank God for coming down from heaven to be with you.

    Today’s Reading: Isaiah 11:1-2, 10
Out of the stump of David’s family will grow a shoot – Yes, a new Branch bearing fruit from the old root. And the Spirit of the Lord will rest on him – the Spirit of wisdom and understanding the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord…. In that day the heir to David’s throne Will be a banner of salvation to all the world. The nations will rally to him, And the land where he lives will be a glorious place.

    Thoughts to discuss
    • How do you think God wants us to treat the less popular or less loved kid?
    • Who in your life needs to know that God loves them?
    • When have you found hope in a really hard situation?
As you hang today’s ornament on your Jesse Tree, say a prayer for those who are less valued in our world.
