Today’s reading:
Habakkuk 2:1; 3:17-19
I will climb up to my watchtower and stand at my guardpost. There I will wait to see what the Lord says and how he will answer my complaint … Even though the fig trees have no blossoms, and there are no grapes on the vines: even though the olive crop fails, and the fields lie empty and barren; even though the flocks die in the fields; and the cattle barns are empty, yet I will rejoice in the Lord! I will be joyful in the God of my salvation! The Sovereign Lord is my strength! He makes me as surefooted as a deer, able to tread upon the heights.
Thoughts to discuss:
  • Is there something that has been stealing your joy lately? What has helped you get through sad times in the past?

  • Go around the room and have each person tell about a gift from God he or she noticed today.
  • Find a jar to use as your “grateful jar.” Write down some of the things you are thankful for and put the slips of paper in the jar. Whenever you’re having a rough day, you can empty the jar to remember the things you have to be grateful for.
