Mark 8:11-12
Jesus had already done some pretty spectacular things. For example, he just fed thousands of people off of some morsels of food. Think about that. Thousands of eyewitnesses actually saw this miracle.
People from all over the area saw this God-moment happen with their own eyes. Yet, moments later the religious leaders came into the scene. Take a look, “The Pharisees came and began to argue with him, seeking from him a sign from heaven to test him and he sighed deeply in his spirit and said, ‘Why does this generation seek a sign?’” (Mark 8:11-12)
They had already seen Jesus do spectacular things, but they wanted another sign. They wanted more.
Isn’t that like us? How many times have you prayed something like, “God, show me a sign and I’ll do it.” How many times before you do something crazy for God do you look for signs that God is with you?
If you are like me, we do it often. It’s like we say, “God, I feel like this is what you want me to do… but just to be sure, show me one more sign.”
It feels like I’m living with one foot in faith and one foot out of faith. A part of me trusts that God’s there and another is doubting that he even exists. Can I say that?
What if we changed our perspective? What if we hung our faith to the things we’ve already seen God do? What if instead of looking for a new sign, we go back to the times we’ve already seen God working?
Here’s what I’ve learned. Oftentimes, when I’m too afraid to walk in faith, I miss out on what God is and has already been doing!
I think in the end, when we follow that path of love, God will be there. So then, what is love calling you towards today?
