From the Pastor’s Desk

“If a guy sitting in a dark prison cell can write a letter overflowing with happiness and peace, he probably has a secret worth learning.”

Starting on Sunday, we’re going to be going through the pages of Paul’s letter to the Philippians. I’m really excited to this one because it is one of the most positive, short, and practical letters in the Bible. In fact, it’s my favorite book in the Bible.

Philippians is often known as the “Epistle of Joy” because of Paul’s attitude. Paul has every reason to be discontent and upset, especially by the world’s standards, since he’s in prison for preaching the Gospel. Despite his circumstances, he still exudes joy and thankfulness! It’s difficult for us to grasp how faithful he was to the Lord through this, since most of us haven’t experienced this kind of persecution first hand. But we’ve all had difficult challenges in our lives. So, join us in worship on Sunday to see what’s in God’s secret sauce of joy in all seasons!

Welcome New Members!

Pastor Kent Landry and Elder Jane McAfee met with Sheila Parrott and Mitch & Mac Cooke last Sunday to accept them as new Covenant Partners of Evergreen Church.

I invite you all to join us as we wish a warm welcome to Sheila, Mitch and Mac! Please introduce yourselves when you see them.

Welcome Hyueri Lee!

We want to wish a warm welcome to Hyue Ri Lee. She has joined the Evergreen Church Staff as our Organist. She studied organ in Korea & Russia and has extensive experience playing for Presbyterian churches in Korea, Russia, the UK and the USA. She believes that the organ plays an important role in traditional church music and worship and that church music is a ministry that supports worship and helps the congregation praise God together.

Join us for Mahjong!

Whether you’re a seasoned player or just curious, come for the fun, the fellowship, and a little friendly competition.

Our first meeting will be Monday, Oct. 5th; 1:00 – 3:00 pm in The Living Room.

Wednesday Night Dinner, Oct. 21st
~ Chili Cook-Off ~

Dinner will feature chili, and we are looking for competitive cooks ready to enter the cook-off. A sign-up sheet is in the Lobby.  It is limited to the first 10 cooks that sign up.  So, sign up quickly.

Operation Christmas Child

The October Wish List is a bit different from the other months where you were donating items to put inside their shoeboxes.

This month they are requesting that you consider donating to their "The Greatest Journey" materials fund. This is a 12-lesson discipleship course. A sponsorship of $6 is collected for each child.

The other items they are asking for are personal notes and Christmas cards.
