From the Pastor’s Desk

“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.”

(Matt. 5:14)

The very first time Lisa and I drove down Peachtree Parkway and saw the church, this is the Bible passage that came to my heart. We have a church that looks so nice and impressive, so churchlike, if that makes sense. If you simply look at the building, you can tell who we are because nothing else quite looks like a traditional church edifice.

So externally, people can see that we’re a church. But is the same thing true when people look inside and meet us? Are we like that city on a hill offering safety and welcome to those who will follow the light to us or has our light been hidden? That verse is from the Sermon on the Mount where Jesus used the phrase in Matthew 5:14 to describe His followers as a visible light to the world that should live righteously and openly rather than hiding their faith.

One of the questions I ask myself when I hear those words of Christ is “how bright is my light shining in this world around me?” If I am not connected to the Lord every day, my light can begin to grow dim, and I will not shine very much. Keep in mind that it’s not my light that shines, but rather the bright light of Jesus Christ Who is shining through me and you! Spend some time reflecting and praying about how you might be a light that shines brighter today and invite someone to come with you to Church on Sunday.
